The celebration, which took place on March 12 at the local council hall in the village of Bido, singled out the achievements and daily struggle of fifty Palestinian women living under Israeli occupation in Jerusalem and in particular from the northeastern villages surrounding Jerusalem.
The Secretary General of the Union, the president of the Jerusalem chapter, a representative of the governor of Jerusalem, and the mayor of Bido were among the dignitaries present. The speeches focused on the crucial role of women in Palestinian society and especially under the violent, harsh conditions of Israeli occupation. The MDF was thanked for its pivotal role in financing development projects in many sectors in Palestine and especially for the role it plays in Jerusalem. The MDF has supported various institutions and provided humanitarian relief to many in Jerusalem and throughout the country. Mr. Munib R. Masri was especially honored for his outstanding role and vocal support of Jerusalem. He is the driver behind several initiatives that are creating jobs for youth and providing support for sustainable projects aimed at developing both private and public sector institutions.
Taher T Masri from the MDF spoke about the Foundation’s achievements over the past 30 plus years, in the areas of education, health, culture, youth and humanitarian assistance in Palestine and the Palestinian diaspora. The Secretary General of the Union concluded the festivities by presenting an Honorary Shield of Achievement to the MDF for its unwavering service to the people of Palestine.
